Anti-fade Glass
Prevention is better than cure.
Protect valuable furnishings or artwork from the destructive fading effects of solar energy.
UV radiation is the dominant influence in furniture fading, while infra red and visible light is absorbed by furniture fabrics, this rasies the fabric temperature, thereby signfiicantly accelerating the fading process.
Glass can be used to diminish solar energy and therefore dimish furniture fading. The objective being to select a glass product that has high absorption or reflection of UV radiation, visible light and infra red radation.
KEY POINTS ON REDUCING FURNITURE FADING
- Careful selection of glazing will serve to control fading factors.
- PVB laminate interlayers absorb up to 99% UV radation. Tinted or reflective PVB laminates gives better fading reduction.
- Tinted or reflective glass will reduce solar heat and visible light and reduce fading.
- Drapes or curtains can help to reduce furntiure exposure to damaging solar factors.
- Building design (provision of eaves, shutters etc.) can help to reduce direct solar transmission onto glazing.
- Low-E coating in an insulated glass unit will help to reduce UV radiation.
